Media Yes, we sell orchid media! For your convenience, we offer small quantities of media, as follows. All are available as 1-liter prepacks- just add distilled water, heat, pour, and autoclave! For more information on Western media, see our Western Media page! For media selection advice, see our Media Information page! Filter funnels Along with the squeeze bottles are filter funnels. These are the Whatman brand that can normally only be sold by the hundred. Each: US$4. Filter papers for these are 1" diameter; we recommend Whatman #4. Funnels are fit with the paper, then wrapped in foil and autoclaved. Seed is disinfected, and the filter is used to separate the seed from the disinfectant. The seed is then washed (see wash bottles, above), and the paper removed with sterile forceps to be placed in flask. Alternatively, the seed may be scraped from the filter paper with a replate fork. One other technique uses an additional squirt of sterile water to suspend the seed, which is then poured into the flask for sowing. These funnels may be autoclaved repeatedly. Inquire about availability of filter papers.
HEPA fan/filter units Available on a rolling basis. Inquire. Prices are usually US$500 and up for 2' x 4' units. Once you use a HEPA filter, you'll never want to go back to glove boxes, aquariums, etc. For more detailed information click here.
