The ideal marking pen for flasking
While other pens fade under fluorescent lights, or come off with bleach of alcohol, these pens produce permanent marks with paint instead of dyes. These are absolutely the best thing going for flasking, and last
a long time- we have some over two years old that still work. Writes on glass, metal, and plastic. Two tips- one large, one fine. US$3 each.

Stainless steel replate forks
Stainless steel microspatulas, about 7" long. May be autoclaved innumerable times. These are the perfect tools for sowing, replating, and manipulating seedlings in flask. Wrap in aluminum foil, and autoclave
in bundles. US$5 each.
New!
Longer replate forks now available. Professionally welded, designed to take repeated quenching from your bead box to alcohol. Ugly, but they work! The best for moving those seedlings in deep flasks or quart jars.

Autoclavable wash bottles
Back in stock!
We sell the autoclavable wash bottles; these are used for many things in orchid seed germination; we recommend filtration techniques for sowing of seed, and these fit the bill perfectly. 500 mL squeeze
bottles; tip may be trimmed back to provide heavier spray. Do not confuse these with ordinary polyethylene squeeze bottles that will melt when autoclaved. $10 each.

Filter funnels
Along with the squeeze bottles are filter funnels. These are the Whatman brand that can normally only be sold by the hundred. Filter papers for these are 1" diameter; we recommend Whatman #4.
Funnels are fit with the paper, then wrapped in foil and autoclaved. Seed is disinfected, and the filter is used to separate the seed from the disinfectant. The seed is then washed (see wash bottles
, above), and the paper removed with sterile forceps to be placed in flask. Alternatively, the seed may be scraped from the filter paper with a replate fork. One other technique uses an additional squirt of sterile water to suspend the seed, which is then poured into the flask for sowing. These funnels may be autoclaved repeatedly. Used with filter papers (next item). US$5.50 each.

Test tubes
We have 7 mL “Vacutainer” test tubes. These are ideal for seed disinfection. Stoppers survive autoclaving, and the tubes are great. We sell them in groups of 15, 7 mL tubes
($4). We have bundles of other tubes with and without stoppers. Inquire.

Band-aid filters
These are the same sterile vents that we use here. They’re tough to get, so we sell them by the box of 40. Pierce metal lids to provide a 1-3mm diameter hole, then cover with one of these
band-aids. May be autoclaved repeatedly. Some of the vents we’ve been using are over 5 years old, and others have been autoclaved multiple times with no signs of embrittlement or failure. Beats the pants
off of cotton plugs! US$4 per box of 40.
